PETE THE FEAT

What great runs by the two old-timers..... Pete off his 'feather weight' finally notched up his tenth career win at most generous odds of 20-1 at Sandown. When a horse has been retired a couple of times, those sort of wins are almost quite emotional. SO much work has been done to get him there and it really is very satisfying when it comes off. Huge thanks must go to Rachel Jenner and her team is Sussex who have literally stuck him back together, the vets at Arundel, especially Rob Van Pelt who has been so patient with him and finally the team here, most importantly Wilf Rayer who loves the horse and rides him every day - all very heart warming!!

But do not take anything away from old Loose Chips. He may be two years younger, but he had to carry a stone more in weight and after a massively interupted preparation - he only had 10 days to get ready for the race, ran a huge race to be third.

At least we could go home last night with a smile - it had been slightly gloomy beforehand as we could not find a winner anywhere. Endless seconds and thirds, but no winner!!

You have to take your hat off to the BHA and the Jockey Club Racecourses, for putting in £400,000 in prize money and laying on the veterans series. These are all horses who have run in top races over the last 6-7 years and they deserve a bit of credit. I would like to think the series might get more and more popular......

Now back to normality and finding the next winner!!
