Pete The Feat Retirement

27 April 2019

This was always going to be Pete’s final season and after his fall in the Grand Military which was intended to be his final race we considered another run to give him a fitting final run, however the quick ground has made that decision for us. Pete has been a grand servant for us, winning 12 races since his first run in November 2007! He joined us from Anna Newton-Smith in August 2012, completing a 5 timer that Autumn and Winter, going from a mark of 94 to 137 in 3 months! He won a 6th chase in December 2013 at Fontwell. His next win was 25 months later in the Veterans’ Final at Sandown, the biggest win of his career  at the age of 13! The following season, he won two chases at Sandown, the first was an Amateur Riders Handicap Chase in December 2017 under Damien Skehan and the second was a Handicap Chase under Johnny in March 2018. He was denied when defending his crown of the Veterans Final by the quirky Buywise. This, his final season he ran well in the Veterans’ qualifier behind Loose Chips and finished third in the Amateur Riders Chase when carrying top weight. Johnny wisely pulled him up in the Final and he missed the Royal Artillary due to the new equine flu vaccination requirements. He then returned to Sandown for the Grand Military in which he departed early. He still won the race, minus his jockey and thought all the crowds were cheering for him. He bounced out of the race in fantastic form and still considers himself to be a naughty 4 year old. You see him on the gallops, pulling Wilf around every day and he just loves being in training and racing. We wish him the very best of luck in his retirement, he thoroughly deserves the best and he will be greatly missed here at Hull Farm by the entire team, especially Wilf!
