It is with great sadness that we have decided to retire Loose Chips..... His final swansong was meant to be this weekend in the New Veteran series final at Newbury, however it was not meant to be and he can now have a fantastic retirement with Claire Hart leading all her youngsters - he will probably need to be led by her youngsters rather than the other way round...!! He has been a huge character from very early in our training career running at many of the big meetings. Below are some stats and figures sent through last night by Stephen Spencer-Jones, one of the Barrels of Courage....

When in our ownership …. we bought him in May 2011 and his last race was in Feb 2020 ...

a) He ran 62 times

b) 2 X Bumpers , 12 x Hurdles and 48 chases.

c) He won just over £180k in prize money ….  Hurdles £20k , Chases £160k

d) In 62 races he won 11 , was second in 9 and third eight times ….

e) He won at Towcester , Kempton x 4 , Ascot , Huntingdon , Sandown x 3 and Plumpton

f) He won right handed 10 times and left handed once !!

g) He was ridden to win by Felix de Giles x 1 , The Great Noel Fehily x 4 , Aiden Coleman x 1, Sally Randall x 1 , Graham Watters x 2 , Paul O'Brien x 1 and Tom Buckley …

h) During his career he was ridden by the following top jocks in order  …..  Andrew Tinkler, Kielan Woods , Alain Cawley , Felix de Giles, Noel Fehily , Nick Scholfield , Aiden Coleman, Harry Wallace , Sally Randall , Claire Hart , Brian Hughes , Graham Watters , Jordan Nailor , Jonny Burke, Paul O'Brien, Zak Baker and Tom Buckley .  17 jockeys !!

I) By my reckoning if you had £5ew or £10 to win ( ew if odds 5/1 or better , ew terms 1/5 odds) … you would have staked £620 and won £650 !!

Not bad for a £10k purchase …..

Hurrah for Chipper …

He raced for nine consecutive seasons, never having a lame step and wore blinkers from as early as 2012 and wore them all the way through until this season! The Barrels of Courage will continue with a new horse called Maninsane and he has a lot to live up to!! God Bless Chipper.....
