2 April 2021

That sunshine was short lived, and we have entered into the season of 'April Showers'. We enjoyed it while it was lasted, and now it is back to reality – cold and windy. It has meant the ground has been drying out, and lots of courses look like they are starting to water. Watering is on the cards for Aintree, and it looks as though we will have a small team heading there with Glimpse Of Gala being entered for the Mares’ Bumper today. Snow Leopardess holds an entry in the Topham, however we do not think the ground will be soft enough. There may be a few others that run, but entries are not until tomorrow.

Our horses have been running well and they all look fantastic with their summer coats coming through. We were really pleased with Midnight Jewel who ran a great race to finish 4th at Southwell on Wednesday. It was his debut run for our yard, and his first run in 6 months, therefore he will definitely improve from the run. He kept up with the pace, but just blundered at the last fence which cost him slightly. He showed a great attitude and the winner only beat him by 4 lengths. We look forward to seeing him next time out.

There have been lots of horse movements over the past week. Stormy Milan was picked up by Sharon Blake on Wednesday, sadly he has done a suspensory, so he has gone to be turned away before finding a new home. Ballydine and Bold Pimpernel were collected by Claire Hart, they have both finished their racing career and have gone to be rehomed. Maninsane is also with Claire Hart for his summer holiday, and recovery from his horrible fall at Southwell.

Little Bruce has returned from his wind operation at Ben Brain’s. The operation went well, and he will now have 4 weeks off to recover.

Champagne Noir has been sent to Marcus Foley for loose schooling. He was swapped with Do Wanna Know who has no returned home and is declared to run at Carlisle on Saturday along with Western Miller. Paul will ride both. Western Miller has been declared with first time blinkers, just to sharpen him up around the quicker 2 mile trip.

There are no runners for us on Easter Sunday, so I hope all of our staff can enjoy their Easter lunch.
