10 January 2022

A relaxed weekend after Guetapan Collonges got off the mark over fences at Wetherby. It is unusual that we have no runners on a weekend, however January is always a bit of a quiet month. However, we have one runner today at Ludlow, Paul O’Brien rides Castle Robin. We then have four runners tomorrow across two meetings. Illegal Model runs at Exeter under Sean Bowen over fences. Glencassley runs in the Handicap Hurdle at Doncaster with Paul and Everyonesgame and High Yield are declared in the bumper, Brian Hughes and Paul O’Brien ride respectively.

Entries for Éclair On Line and Almazhar Garde at Catterick on Thursday, and on Friday Peter’s Portrait is in at Huntingdon while The Mighty Arc is in a Sedgefield. High Yield also has an entry at Sedgefield but runs earlier in the week. It looks to be another quiet weekend with only one entry at Kelso for Almazhar Garde.

It was great to watch the Veteran’s chase on Saturday around Sandown, it brought back many fond memories of Pete The Feat and Loose Chips, our stable stalwarts back in the day. The Racing Post wrote a wonderful article about Pete in his retirement, and he even featured on the ITV ‘home schooling’ section. Pete now has a permanent home at the Racehorse Sanctuary and Loose Chips is only down the road at Claire Hart’s being spoilt rotten!

As always on a Monday the clipping ladies are in, they do a fantastic job of managing the horse’s clipping routine and make sure they are comfortable for the winter. It has taken three years, but this year they managed to clip Almazhar Garde out fully. In his first year he was unclipped, last year he had a trace clip, and this year it is all off! He is a bit of nightmare, but their patience has paid off. Lilly Pinchin was in this morning to ride out, and she rode three lots. We also welcomed a new member of the team this morning, Sian.

Have a great week everyone, for a few of you this may be your full week back at work after the Christmas Holidays so hopefully it is not too challenging!
