It would appear a successful week at the sales, coming home with 5 new faces! It was a strong market, and this was proven by the Goffs UK Spring Sale 2022 being the highest grossing chapter in its illustrious history. Monday and Tuesday were sale of store horses, with Wednesday and Thursday being a sale for the Horses in Training and Point to Point field. Store horses are unbroken National Hunt horses.

The first purchase of the week was a lovely 2019 Telescope gelding out of Madam Bijou. The attention was drawn to Lot 78, due to him being a half brother to Killala Quay. Killala Quay was a stable star for us back in his day, being a 140 chaser. He’s My Hero, another half brother to lot 78, recently came 2nd by a length on the Irish P2P field, the winner made £400,000! Therefore, it is a nice family to follow, and we cannot wait to get going with him.

The second purchase, Lot 113. He is a striking, strong looking Mount Nelson with a brilliant attitude. He has already been driven in long reins, and Brogan sat on him this morning. He hacked happily around the barns and looks to be a very honest sort.

That was it for our store horse purchases, we then moved on to Point to Pointers. Lot 324, Captains Road, won at Punchestown P2P last weekend, in a time that was nine seconds faster than average. He is a fine, big, scopey son of Doyen, with an honest way of going.

Tommy Cullen, Lot 489, looks to be a progressive sort by Hillcrest. He has run in 3 starts, improving each time. Most recently running into 3rd place, where he did not get the run of the race. He is only 4, so will enjoy a summer out to grass to strengthen up, before coming back in to see what he can do.

The final purchase of the week was Lot 541, Calidad. Calidad, out of the same sire of Rare Edition, Califet, is a 6 year old gelding. Our successful chaser, Drop Out Joe, was half-brother to Calidad. Drop Out Joe was a 150s chaser, who featured in the Grand National. It was noted that Calidad had only been running over 2m, due to having a high cruising speed. It might be a possibility to step him up in trip, as his pedigree may suggest.

Therefore, a successful week. All horses are back at Hull Farm and starting their education at Charlie Longsdon Racing. It is brilliant to see a full row of new horses. We cannot wait to see what future stars we have. They are all for sale, so please do get in touch if you would like to come and see them. They will feature on the website shortly.

In other news, Charlie Longsdon Racing has been shortlisted for the 2022 Lycetts Team Champions Ward! Fingers crossed for the next round.

If I Say was disappointing at Uttoxeter last week. She scoped dirty, and therefore may have an excuse. Beyond The Clouds ran a nice race at Warwick on Wednesday. Life is tough for him now that he constantly has to carry top weight. High Yield was disappointing at Southwell on Wednesday. The first time cheek pieces and T/S helped him travel in the early part of the races before fading. Hopefully an obstacle will improve him next time out.

Jamacho and Due Reward run under Paul O’Brien at Stratford on Saturday evening. Present Storm and Vivas are entered at Huntingdon and Ludlow respectively on Monday.

Have a great weekend everyone.
