Doncaster & Ludlow Round Up

23 February 2024

We had a bust Wednesday with 5 runners between Doncaster and Ludlow. The soft ground was tiring for the horses as you’d expect, but some of them still showed promising ability.

Doncaster

Ginger Jonny and The Dark Edge both ran in the Novice hurdle, with Jonny and Jonny (AKA Jonathan Burke) finishing 6th and The Dark Edge and Lilly Pinchin following behind in 9th. Both out there to get a handicap mark having missed out on a number of runs this season due to abandonments. They both came home well and learnt a lot.

Maninsane always loves his trips to the races (see photos of him posing for the camera!). Unfortunately the change in the ground to soft, heavy in places meant the ground was not to his liking and really struggled despite jumping well, so Lilly made the sensible decision to pull him up.

The star of the show went to Almazhar Garde who was back to his well ways and finished a good 2nd in the Handicap chase. Paul O’Brien was back on board and gave him a great ride and looked happy to be out again since his previous run at Sandown.

Ludlow

Gentleman Jacques went to Ludlow for the third time this season with Harry Coden on board in the Handicap Hurdle. He took the lead early on and stayed on well to the end but just didnt quite quicken with the others over the line. Certainly not a bad run from him, just slightly better ground and a slightly longer trip will help next time out.

Looking forward to another busy few days ahead with runners at Exeter, Chepstow and Hereford this weekend.
