25 October 2021

There was some superb National Hunt Racing on this weekend, with some smart performances. It was great to be back at the Home Of Jump Racing, and also see Aintree return on Sunday with full size crowds.

Oscar Montel did not disgrace on Thursday at Carlisle. We were originally unsure as to whether he would stay the full 3m2f trip, which he did. However, he never really got into the race and was nearly pulled up at the bottom of the hill. Although, he did then run on strongly up the hill to finish 4th. Oscar has had a busy summer campaign, running eight times and being in the first four in all bar one run. He has been a super fun horse to have around, and hopefully he will have one more race close to home – so all the syndicate can attend – before he heads off on his well-deserved winter holidays.

Almazhar Garde made his seasonal debut in the hot Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham. He set a solid front running pace to make it strong test, and unfortunately, he was unable to go with the leaders after the second last. He just stayed on the same pace up the hill to finish 6th. He really is a one paced horse and is rather slow! Gavin said he could hear them coming behind him down the hill, and he knew Almazhar would keep going but he couldn’t go any quicker! We will now look to the extended 3m trip back over fences. We have been tentative about stepping him up due to him only being six, but now seems to be the time to do so.

We were back to Cheltenham on Saturday with Just Your Type, and it looked as though on the good ground he could not lay up with the pace, and as a result made a few mistakes with his jumping.

The week ahead looks a busy one with lots of entries and a stable visit from Old Gold Racing on Wednesday. We are really looking forward to showing them our fantastic facilities, as well as their two exciting prospects. There are still shares available in both Stroll On By and Train Hill, check out their website for more details.

Tomorrow we have Champagne Noir head to Bangor On Dee in the Handicap Hurdle with Gavin Sheehan on board and Moon King off to Chepstow in the Handicap Hurdle with Sam Twiston Davies riding.

Later on in the week we have George Bancroft entered at Ffos Las on Thursday and Guetapan Collonges entered at Stratford. That is the last meeting at Stratford until next summer. Lyrical Genius and If I Say are entered at Uttoxeter on Friday, and Glen Forsa is entered at Wetherby. Glen Forsa also has an entry on Saturday at Ascot in the Sodexco along with Snow Leopardess. Finally, on Sunday we have George Bancroft, Jamacho and Freethinker all entered at Huntingdon and Hoot At Midnight, Freethinker and Do Wanna Know at Lingfield.

Charlie is also at the Tattersalls Newmarket Horses In Training Sale this week, where there are around 1500 lots! I am sure there is one for you, so please do get in touch with your orders!!

And then, can you believe that we are in November next week? Time really does fly!
