With the horses turned out on their summer holidays and no entries upcoming, we have begun the summer clean up. While our staff take it in turns to go on holiday we have emptied plenty of stables, pressure washed them and started painting!
However, the summer isn’t just about cleaning up, this is the prime time to break in young horses, spending some time backing, long-reining and educating them. Roche, our head lad has broken in a few this summer which has been exciting.
The boys have also been hard at work putting new surface down on the gallops, it’s important to keep our gallop maintained throughout the year to ensure it is safe for the horses and riders. Again, summer is the perfect time to top it up with materials and keep it in top condition!
Summer at a National Hunt yard is less about adrenaline and more about attention to detail. It’s the time for recharging—horses and humans alike!
Have a good week!
